I’m 40! Whew!
It’s a milestone that made me want to hit the pause button and reflect on where I’ve been and where I’m going. I’ve experienced many emotions around this moment — blessed, humble, and incredibly grateful for how far I’ve come. Though there are still moments I’m processing, I am incredibly proud of myself. What better way to celebrate than with a solo trip to Puerto Rico — the island where my heart feels most at home?
Why Go Solo?
Turning 40 is a big deal. I needed time alone to really soak in what this milestone meant for me. It was a chance to enjoy my own company, reflect on the past (and trust me, I’ve been through a lot), and prepare for what’s next. Celebrating myself felt like the perfect way to mark this new chapter. It wasn’t just about taking a break but honoring my journey and embracing who I’ve become.
Soaking Up the Solitude
I planned to do nothing on this trip but be still, which is exactly what I did. I stayed at the Wyndham Rio Grande, a secluded paradise right on the beach with a stunning view of the El Yunque rainforest. Beautiful! To top it off, they upgraded my room to an ocean-view suite — plush doesn’t even begin to cover it. I spent my days lounging on the beach and sipping drinks at the bar. I was in bed every night by 9, even on my birthday eve. I got dressed, took myself out for a special birthday dinner, and treated myself to a 90-minute Balinese massage — OMG, the best! I journaled; I also took a 7 a.m. yoga class in the garden. This trip was like a mini “Eat, Pray, Love” experience.
A Profound Moment
One evening, as I was getting ready for dinner, I looked in the mirror and saw my inner child. It was a profound and beautiful moment because that child, who had been through so much, finally felt safe. It was a powerful reminder that I’m not just surviving but thriving.
Enjoying My Own Company
I found so much joy in simply being with myself. Relaxing under a palm tree gave me a fantastic sense of peace and clarity. It was a perfect reminder of how important it is to enjoy your own company and take time for yourself.
Feeling the Love
The best part of this trip was the incredible outpouring of love I received from everyone back home. It was truly heartwarming and reminded me of how much I’m cherished. I’m deeply grateful for this love and the work I’ve done to open myself up to receiving it. It indeed was the best gift I could have asked for.
Looking Forward
As I returned from this rejuvenating getaway, I felt a deep sense of gratitude and excitement for what was to come. This solo trip to Puerto Rico wasn’t just a birthday celebration but a beautiful journey of self-discovery and renewal. Here’s to new beginnings, embracing change, and continuing to grow.
